Energy: Malcolm Macdonald
Objective: To establish an energy management process which could be used in each business to reduce energy consumption and costs across the sector
Action:
- Company Energy Champions have been nominated
- Combined training for Champions has been provided
- Method of measurement to be agreed
Waste: Bob Hastings
Objective: To identify legal and compliant disposal routes for the MTI sector companies and also opportunitie for joint cost savings via shared disposal routes
Action:
- Jointly funded (DTI, DLGE, company) waste audits carried out by SITA at all main sites
- Full list of licensed waste sites and operators to be established
Skills / Engineering Sector Skills Group: Chris Allen
Objectives:
- Objective 1: Promotion of manufacturing as a career
- Objective 2: Sustain and improve skills within the sector
- Objective 3: Improve productivity and competitiveness
Action:
- Partnering with educational leaders, secondary, primary, design/technology heads
- Pro-active with parents and careers advisers
- Link into school curriculum at primary, secondary and design/technology levels
- Full-time Skills Champion employed to promote manufacturing as an exciting and rewarding career choice (jointly funded initiative by companies and DTI)
Aerospace Cluster:
Objective: To facilitate the promotion, development and co-ordination of Isle of Man aerospace companies to achieve international recognition as a cluster
Action:
- Organised first IoM Aerospace Conference in conjunction with the North West Aerospace Alliance
- Identify common services for common supply
- Target joint co-operation pilot study for these services
Legislation: Barbara O'Hanlon
Objective: To review the Government legislation process to assess where CoC could be involved at an early stage (possibly when a Dept prepares a brief for legislation) to allow earlier assessment of the impact on the sector and prepare a case for amendment if necessary.
