About the Committee

The Committee works closely with other construction related industry bodies such as the Construction Forum and the Isle of Man Construction Federation to help present a unified voice for the construction industry on the Isle of Man. The Committee also works with Government Departments at both ministerial and officer level on all aspects of the construction industry to ensure a positive interaction for the benefit of the Isle of Man and its built infrastructure environment where construction is a key provider.

Priorities and Objectives

  • Lobby for outside resourcing to speed up the area planning process particularly in relation to the Eastern plan
  • Engage in further development of the Planning Charter through the planning officers and the industry
  • Encourage and support the redevelopment of Douglas Town Centre

Supporting a sustainable Construction industry on the Isle of Man

  • Continue to engage and liaise with other relevant industry bodies
  • Engage with Government for the controlled release of the capital programme via an array of procurement methods rather than just lowest tender wins
  • Seek for a review of the current construction procurement to establish which methods give value for money in real terms i.e. not just price
  • Lobby for the continued use of indigenous companies for capital schemes and for a Government review on the percentage level of fees for the industry professionals
  • Continue to contribute to the compilation of a Mineral Strategy for the Island in collaboration with Government and the relevant mineral operators
  • Continue to contribute to the discussion on the new Government house purchase schemes to encourage movement in housing development

Skills, Training & Employment Opportunities

  • Work to ensure that there are adequate resources on the Island to fulfil training needs for the current and future construction industry
  • Promote the positive effect of the construction industry as a major employer  and a revenue provider
  • Encourage liaison with local schools through member companies to promote careers in construction
