Chamber Advisory Platform - an AMAZING member benefit | February 2021

It will be a year next month since we launched the Chamber Advisory platform, with this in mind we wanted to refresh your memories about the benefits and value that this wonderful platform can offer all of our Chamber members.

Date: Friday 12 February 2021

For those of you not aware the Chamber of Commerce Advisory Platform (CAP) is a free of charge service that offers Chamber members the opportunity to tap into a wealth of knowledge and expertise amongst our membership.

The service utilises Chamber’s 500 strong membership with experienced professionals in all sectors of the Island’s economy. Topics covered by CAP include (but are not limited to) tax, accountancy, HR, marketing, legal, operational support, entrepreneurial thinking, health and wellbeing, pensions and insurance. The service can also be useful for business people that just need moral support from more experienced peers within their sector.

The system allows the mentee to either arrange a meeting with a mentor or simply ask a question via the platform, meaning help is easy to access and very timely.

We are extremely privileged to have over 100 expert mentors signed up to CAP. Whether you’re a brand new business looking for assistance with the basics, tax returns, writing a business plan, should you go limited? Right through to an established entrepreneur looking to diversify a business model or scale up there is sure to be a Chamber mentor that can assist.

To give you an example of some of the expertise you can access, we have recently been approached by an outstanding mentor who due to the pandemic cannot travel, like every successful entrepreneur he does not like having time on his hands and would therefore like to dedicate some time each week to assist businesses in need of advice and support.

As background, our mentor started in Engineering and worked for large corporates like IBM, H.J.Heinz and Clear Channel. He has since run companies both for owners, himself and partners. Our mentor has also worked within Government (DfE) and specialised in advertising. For the last decade he has ran gaming companies including running B2C and B2B businesses. Having set up businesses in most continents, he understands the different challenges both globally and locally. Having now sold his last company her is now happy to assist others, either with problems of growth, simple planning or understanding the systems and departments you will need to deal with in the Isle of Man as you grow your business.

If you feel you or your business could benefit from the assistance on offer please contact jessica.kitchin@iomchamber.org.im directly with a summary of the challenges you are facing or the type of assistance you could benefit from and she will approach our mentors with your requests.

You might simply want to chat over a problem or get a bit of help with something you haven't done before because no doubt our mentors probably have.
