Manx charities are being given a helping hand thanks to a Chamber of Commerce campaign which connects them with the business community.

In November 2020 Chamber launched a campaign to help raise the profile of its charity members. Chamber used its website, social media channels, and newsletter to run a ‘Charity of the Week’ campaign. Infographics are created which explain each charity’s work, how businesses can help, and crucially what businesses can gain from providing support. The campaign was a great success with 17 charity members taking part.

The campaign produced some great results, with one example being Disability Networks, as the charity’s Co-ordinator Beth Martin explains: “Shortly after we were featured in the campaign, Zurich International got in touch and very kindly donated £500. It proves how charities can benefit from Chamber’s contacts and business network.”
Serena Wood, Isle of Man’s Community Champion for the Z Zurich Foundation (Zurich Insurance Group’s charitable foundation), said: “Disability Networks is a fantastic charity which we were delighted to be able to support as part of our #PurpleLightUp campaign for the annual UN International Day of Persons with Disabilities (UNIDPD).”

Temporary purple lighting was installed at Zurich International’s HQ, Zurich House, on December 3rd last year in support UNIDPD and the #PurpleLightUp. Beth Martin attended the lighting up ceremony and received a cheque on behalf of Disability Networks, from Zurich International.

Jessica Kitchin, Business Support Lead at Chamber, said: “We’re really pleased with the success of this campaign, and will continue it throughout this year. It’s creating a very powerful synergy between our members in the business community, and the third sector.”
