Isle of Man Chamber of Commerce has chosen the Manx Wildlife Trust (MWT) as its charity
partner.

The Island’s biggest business network describes the partnership as part of a strategic move which aims to promote corporate social responsibility and environmental conservation. The partnership – which runs from 2023 to 2025 – was announced at Chamber’s Gala Dinner held at The Comis Hotel.

Chamber CEO, Rebecca George, commented: “We are delighted to announce our partnership with Manx Wildlife Trust. It marks a significant step for Chamber in our mission to support good causes and help the local community to thrive. Chamber has a long-standing tradition of selecting a charity partner every two years, channelling our resources and expertise to make a positive impact. We have chosen Manx Wildlife Trust because the charity shares our commitment to environmental sustainability and conservation.”

Over the next two years Chamber and MWT will collaborate on projects and initiatives aimed at enhancing the Island's natural ecosystems and raising awareness about environmental issues. Rebecca George added: “MWT’s remarkable work aligns seamlessly with our mission to support and nurture our local community. We eagerly anticipate the positive impact we can create together.”

Manx Wildlife Trust CEO Leigh Morris was one of the guest speakers at the Gala Dinner. Commenting on the partnership, he said: “It is fantastic that the Chamber of Commerce have selected Manx Wildlife Trust (MWT) as their charity partner for the next two years, and it is a
great indication of how businesses in the IOM, and globally, are now seeing nature and the environment as being fundamentally important to their business success and sustainability. Delivering Environmental Social Governance (ESG) is becoming a ‘must do’ for corporates
within our Isle of Man UNESCO Biosphere, and MWT see a wonderful opportunity for our Island by working more closely with our business sector.”

He continued: “MWT has just turned 50 years old, and we have worked hard in recent years to develop our governance and delivery into something businesses would see as a strong partnership opportunity. We work closely with some leading IOM businesses, and we are keen to work with more of them to collectively achieve our ambition of the Isle of Man becoming a global example of how a Biosphere should work for both the economy and nature. I’d be delighted to hear from other IOM businesses who’d like to help us deliver that vision.”

Since it was founded in 1973 MWT has established itself as the Isle of Man’s leading nature conservation charity. A raffle at Chamber’s Gala Dinner raised £2,500 which will go towards supporting MWT’s mission to protect and enhance the environment, create more spaces for wildlife, and inspire people to act for nature.

In the coming months Chamber and MWT will roll-out a series of events, fundraisers, and volunteer opportunities to engage Chamber members and the wider community. These activities will not only promote awareness of environmental issues but also provide essential
support to MWT’s conservation endeavours.
