It’s back to school time!
Even if you aren’t a teacher or student heading back to school yourself, or don’t have offspring who are, September still always seems to herald that end of Summer, ‘new pencil case’ feeling of newness and anticipation.
At #TeamLoveTech it’s no different. We’re enjoying the last (or is it the first?) of the summer sun, holidays are a distant memory and it’s time to get back to business.
We therefore have plenty of exciting ideas and partnerships in the pipeline for the coming term that we’ll tell you all about as soon as they’re locked in.
HOWEVER, we did also manage to have a busy August.
Here goes...
To begin with, huge thank you to Henry Bloom Noble Library for welcoming us once again to participate in their Ready, Steady, Read Challenge.
This took place at the library throughout the summer, featuring different sport-related workshops each Wednesday morning, of which we joined in with two.
The first of these took place at the end of July with Andrew Roche, cycling coach, and Becky Storrie, professional cyclist and author of Becky’s Story – with amazing feedback.
The second took place on 23rd August with our fabulous workshop co-ordinator and BRAND-NEW Love Tech MENTOR, Ruth Cooil Physiotherapy. Here’s what our attending Love Tech committee member, Claire Milne, had to say about the event:
“Ruth was brilliant and got the kids really involved, even taping themselves up, using crutches, hearing their heart beats and checking the oxygen in their lungs.”
A huge well done all round – and we are excited to say we even had a visit from the Mayor, Natalie Byron-Teare, and her Consort, Andy Teare, who are keen to hear more about our work.
Thank you so much Ruth and all the library team - you smashed it.

Next up...
Have you checked out our Wildlife Challenge yet in conjunction with UNESCO Biosphere and Manx Wildlife Trust?
One of our eight Wildlife Challenge, natural habitat sites
If not – it’s an absolute must – especially if you have kids aged 8-12 because it features a fabulous COMPETITION to win a 6th Generation iPad Mini – thanks to Manx Telecom’s generosity. £50 vouchers for Manx Wildlife Trust’s shop in Peel are also up for grabs thanks to our wonderful sponsors at Appleby.
Here's everything else you need to know:
- The comp runs until the end of September (that’s only a few short weeks away!).
- It centres around you and your kids visiting some of the Island’s most stunning natural habitats, details of which can be found right here:
https://lovetech.im/event/love-tech-summer-challenge/
- After this your child is encouraged to use a Smartphone to follow the QR links on the posters you’ll find at the sites and make pledges to protect our amazing Biosphere.
- Your child is then encouraged to come up with a pledge of their own, and enter it in our comp.
- The winner will be chosen on Sept 30th. (The judges’ decision is final, full terms and conditions can be found on Manx Wildlife Trust’s website).
The challenge has been running throughout August and has been a massive team effort – Manx Wildlife Trust and UNESCO took our idea and really ran with it, selecting the sites, generating the web pages and posters (and the posts to nail them to!), and managing the competition angle.
We also can’t thank our sponsors enough – this has been a huge community effort so do please get out there to make the most of it.
In other news...
If you have little ones and you’ve been following our social media, we hope you’ve enjoyed our STEM-amazing summer holiday activities. We ran 14 of these in total and had lots of fun selecting simple ideas and tasks to keep everyone busy.
Please do always feel free to like, share, comment on social posts as that’s a great way to help us maintain visibility – and especially if you’ve photos or feedback to share about anything we suggest.
Apart from that, it’s been business as normal. We’ve been busy developing our Mentor programme and our website. We’ll therefore soon have some great videos on our media page thanks to videographer, Glenn Whorrall. The first batch looks AMAZING and will be up VERY SOON. We can’t wait to capture our remaining Mentor stories sometime in the Autumn.
And that’s about everything for now!
