After a warm-up session led by Alice Ashe of Thriive Wellness, almost 500 participants set out in glorious sunshine, as they took on the 12-mile challenge along the Douglas to Peel Heritage Trail.

Manx Blind Welfare Society volunteers, members, staff, and a 12-strong team of Conister Bank employees also got involved, in the bid to beat last year’s record of £8,000.

Efforts paid off, as it has been confirmed that funds raised have passed the £9,000 mark – and sponsorship is still coming in!

Money raised will help the charity Manx Blind Welfare Society, which provides a wide range of services under their operational name Sight Matters, to continue providing access to the support, equipment, and facilities required by those with sight issues to live as independently as they choose.

Young fundraiser, Callum Bentham, knows the value of Sight Matters’ services first hand, as his little brother Aiden is a member. Callum raised an incredible £1,120 by walking the St John’s to Peel route. Callum said: ‘Sight Matters help my brother a lot and it makes me happy to do something for them’.

Local business, RecycleCollect also supported the event, by supplying recycling bins along the way, and at the finish line, ensuring participants took only photographs and left only footprints. Sight Matters’ green approach also ensured 150 single-use plastic bottles were saved, by securing access to refillable water bottles and a free water supply at the start of the route.

Debbie Thompson, Volunteer Coordinator & Events Organiser at Sight Matters said: ‘We’re thrilled the event was such a success! Everyone had a fantastic time enjoying our beautiful Island in the sunshine, and we are overwhelmed by the support which will help us continue our vital services.

‘Thank you to all those who took part, everyone who sponsored a participant, and of course to our volunteers. We’re hugely grateful to our generous sponsors Conister Bank, without whom the event would not have been possible, and our event partners, RecycleCollect and Event Management Solutions, who made the day run so smoothly. Our thanks also to Isle of Man Advertising and PR for their support.’
