The partnership signifies that Standard Bank Isle of Man pledges to make a commitment to protect natural resources, develop the economy sustainably, support and promote the Island’s cultural heritage, make an environmental impact positive wherever possible, engage with the local community and promote the living landscape and seascape through active involvement with UNESCO Biosphere Isle of Man.

Jennie Bronte-Hearne, Standard Bank’s Programme Lead for Social, Economic & Environmental Initiatives in the Isle of Man, explained more about the bank’s involvement: ‘Sustainability is rightly so important; this partnership will guide our work to contribute to a more sustainable Isle of Man through the “five ‘Es” – economy, environment, enjoyment, engagement and education - building on the programmes we have been developing and implementing with our staff over the last few years.’

Chris Till, CEO at Standard Bank Isle of Man, said: ‘We’re privileged to partner with UNESCO Biosphere Isle of Man and make this crucial pledge to a more sustainable future for the Island. Sustainability forms one of the key focusses of Standard Bank’s broad range of social, economic and environmental initiatives and it’s great to be able to help highlight and support the Isle of Man’s biosphere status. Given our presence on the Island for over 25 years it is also important to recognise the impact that we can have in our local community and on the place where we live and work. Whether that be promoting and making a positive impact or understanding and reducing the negative impact we can have they are equally important.’

Jo Overty, UNESCO Biosphere Isle of Man Project Officer, said: ‘Large organisations such as Standard Bank have great power to positively influence sustainability through the decisions they make and actions they take and we welcome the bank as our newest Partner and thank it for helping our Biosphere.’
