The Blue Island Guys and London Marketing Set | The NEW Market and Social Research Apprenticeship | June 2021

Market and social research is vital in informing and driving effective decision making within both the business and public sectors – and can benefit all industries.

Date: Monday 14 June 2021

“Research, insight and analytics stand at the heart of all well-informed commercial, social and political decisions. Insight into what makes a product, business initiative or government policy work is often the hidden – yet defining – factor between success and failure” MRS 2021.

It’s an exciting year on the island for both employers and people seeking employment due to a new ‘Market and Social Research Apprenticeship Programme’ launching in September 2021. Local marketer and research consultant, Katryna Baptist, has developed this exciting new opportunity in partnership with the London Marketing Set (an MRS & CIM Accredited Study Centre).

It is expected that a number of local employers will see the benefits of hiring a market/social research apprentice which include an upskilled workforce, improved staff motivation and improved business decision making. The programme is fully funded by DESC.

With only 12 paces available competition to start the programme will be high. Apprentices have the opportunity to ‘earn while they learn’, develop sought after skills to improve their future employability and gain a professional qualification, the Market Research Society (MRS) Advanced Certificate in Market and Social Research Practice, along the way. The programme is delivered by ‘blended learning’ with a mix of on-Island delivery/support and apprentices being able to dial in to live sessions taking place in London – allowing them to learn and network with students from a wide variety of sectors. Past students have worked for organisations such as Mintel, The Houses of Parliament and Shell Petroleum.

Katryna says “there seems to be a ‘gap in the market’ in terms of research training and research roles on our Island. We hope that this programme will improve the profile of market and social research as a career and, in doing so, are happy to be supporting the Manx economy and businesses.”
