Date: Tuesday 17 December 2019

Guest speaker at the event – which was sponsored by Simcocks – was Bill Dale BEM who is founder of the Beach Buddies charity. He spoke about the success of Beach Buddies, the latest news about projects that are in progress, and explained the CSR benefits that businesses can gain by supporting the charity’s work. Many companies that are Chamber members have been involved with Beach Buddies over the years, either as sponsors or by employees doing voluntary work to clean beaches.

Other notable guests also included Enterprise Minister Laurence Skelly MHK, and Treasury Minister Alf Cannan MHK, and many leading figures from across the Island’s business community.

Left to right are John Horsthuis, director at Robinson’s; Treasury Minister Alf Cannan MHK; and James Osborne, financial adviser.

Chamber President, Caren Pegg, looked forward to Chamber’s plans for 2020 and beyond in her speech. This included an explanation of Chamber’s plans to consult members and use their feedback to create a Chamber ‘manifesto’ ahead of the Isle of Man General Election. During the election campaign, the manifesto will be used to challenge candidates about their opinions regarding the major economic and business issues from Chamber’s point of view.

Rebecca George, Chamber’s Chief Executive, gave a review of Chamber’s activities and achievements this year, thanked guests for attending the event, and members for supporting the Island’s biggest business network. She also expressed gratitude to Simcocks for sponsoring the lunch, the staff at Woodbourne House for their hospitality, and to Chamber members who donated raffle prizes.  Proceeds from the raffle will go to Isle Listen and Beach Buddies – the two charities which Chamber is supporting over the next two years. The final sum raised from the raffle had not been confirmed at the time of writing.
