Chamber Shares ‘A Learning Island’ Discussion Paper with Tynwald

News

The Isle of Man Chamber of Commerce has shared A Learning Island: Human Capability as Economic Infrastructure with all Tynwald members ahead of Government’s November plan.

Developed through Chamber’s Future of the Economy work, the paper proposes a bold ambition: to make the Isle of Man one of the best places in the world to learn, develop and adapt throughout life.

It explores how education, employers and communities could work more closely together to develop talent, support career changes and prepare people for a changing world of work. Businesses could contribute through meaningful work experience, apprenticeships, mentoring and sharing expertise.

Chamber thanks the members whose feedback helped refine the paper, particularly around access, affordability and the practical support employers need to participate.

Chamber has asked Government to recognise human capability development and lifelong learning as a cross-government priority, building on initiatives already underway.

The paper remains a starting point for discussion rather than an agreed Chamber policy or finished proposal. Views from businesses, educators, learners and the wider community are welcome.
