Chamber Welcomes Announcement of New Council of Ministers, but Calls for Swift Action to Drive Economic Growth
Isle of Man Chamber of Commerce has welcomed the announcement of the new Council of Ministers.
Chamber President Claire Watterson said: “The Chief Minister has listened to the business community, and we welcome the clear emphasis on entrepreneurial thinking and a stronger understanding of the economy. This is an important starting point for the new administration. There is now an opportunity to turn that intent into action, but it’s important that the new government acts quickly to start to address the economic challenges that the Island is facing. Chamber has already done significant work on the Future of the Economy and Skills, providing a strong foundation from which to work with the new administration and make an immediate start. Business understands the importance of pace, agility and timely decision-making. Opportunities for growth can be lost when decisions are delayed, processes are cumbersome or regulation is disproportionate. We need an environment where businesses can invest, innovate, access the skills they need and compete successfully. That means proportionate regulation, faster decisions, modern technology and connectivity, and a clear, compelling proposition for the Isle of Man. This needs to be supported by strong branding and consistent messaging about the opportunities our Island offers.”
Chamber, she said, looks forward to working collaboratively with the new Ministers responsible for the economy, the Chief Minister, and all members of the Council of Ministers to turn ambition into measurable progress. She added: “This election has reinforced an important point: economic growth is not the responsibility of one department alone. Every department has a role to play in creating the conditions for a stronger, more competitive and sustainable economy. Chamber stands ready to work constructively with the new administration to help deliver the pace, focus and practical action that businesses and our Island’s future prosperity require.”
