Chamber Charity of Choice Update | Love Tech | July 2023

07 July 2023

Welcome to Love Tech’s latest newsletter. Hopefully you all enjoyed a stupendous TT and, as we hit July, are looking forward to the rest of a sizzling hot Summer.

So here goes – JUNE’S NEWS!

To kick us off, if you’ve been following our socials, you might have noticed we’ve been busy prepping for an exceptionally exciting Summer Open Day.

Sponsored by Hansard Global, this biosphere themed event is a fab-collab between us, IOM Code Club, Young Engineers IOM and UNESCO biosphere.

This will take place on July 22nd at Barclays Eagle Labs over two sessions (morning and early afternoon), is aimed at children aged 8-14, and...

IT’S ALL FREE!

In the lead up stay tuned to our social media too. Each week we’re going to be sharing a fun biosphere activity for you to do with your child. From watching sunsets to creating mini ecosystems, these are fantastic ways to challenge your child’s observational skills and to inspire them to explore the Isle of Man’s astonishingly beautiful biosphere.

Anyway, event tickets are flying off the virtual shelves, so don’t let your child miss out.

Grab theirs here

(IMPORTANT SIDE NOTE! If you later find your child can’t make the event, that’s no problem, just return the ticket via Eventbrite and let us know – thank you so much).

Next up... remember last month we had a film-omenally fabulous time with videographer, Glenn Whorrall, filming our committee and mentors’ inspirational #womeninSTEM stories? Well, we’re excited to say that we plan to have these loaded onto our website’s new media page in the next few weeks. If the new committee photo is anything to go by, they’re going to be brilliant, and we really do hope they serve to ‘Inspire and empower girls and young women in the Isle of Man to explore opportunities in STEM.’

In the spirit of engagement and communication, we’re also thrilled to announce the launch of our new Mailchimp service. If you’ve already signed up to this, please do check your inbox. Our first email has been delivered – exciting! And this is the perfect way for you to make sure your child never misses an event.

The form can be found by clicking here.

As we begin to draw to a close, we also want to say a quick thank you to all our amazing mentors. Female STEM role models are so important when it comes to inspiring our Island’s girls to follow these often in-demand career paths – and having a mentorship scheme is a core component of Love Tech’s work.

Behind the scenes we’ve therefore been busy updating our Mentor Engagement Strategy. This is so we can attract more mentors, make the most of the ones we already have, and, in general, make being part of #TeamLoveTech a truly rewarding experience.

More updates to come, but in the meantime, if you are a woman in STEM on the Isle of Man and would love to get in involved, drop us an email:

Contact@lovetech.im

And lastly! A big WELL DONE to our hard-working committee who have been busy out and about implementing our STEM books in primary schools’ initiative – we've hit 28 primary schools! That’s 28/33 schools who’ve received a STEM-tastic STEM assembly and a big batch of STEM books for their library. Thank you so much to PwC Isle of Man for sponsoring this project, it’s been brilliant.

Anyway, here’s to an awesome July. Keep an eye on our social pages and please do like, share, comment! All these things help increase our visibility. We’ve also a few more Summer sizzlers for your pot – including our Summer Challenge with Manx Wildlife Trust and UNESCO biosphere. Details are being finalised as we type, but more info COMING SOON.

Thank you as always to the Chamber of Commerce for all your support and for making us your 22/23 Charity of Choice!
