ON BEHALF OF OUR MEMBERS, CHAMBER IS PLANNING TO SUBMIT A RESPONSE TO THE CALL FROM THE MINIMUM WAGE COMMITTEE FOR COMMENTS ON ANY CHANGES TO THE RATE OF MINIMUM WAGE TO COME INTO EFFECT ON 1ST APRIL 2024.

14 December 2023

On behalf of our members, Chamber is planning to submit a response to the call from the Minimum Wage Committee for comments on any changes to the rate of minimum wage to come into effect on 1st April 2024.

Additionally, as we have highlighted previously, views are being sought on the harmonisation of the minimum and living wage which is a cause of concern for many of our members.

Chamber members' collective responses play a pivotal role in guiding our mandate and influencing governmental policy decisions, therefore, receiving as much input from members as possible is vital to ensure you have the opportunity to voice your concerns, challenges, and potential solutions regarding the wage harmonisation proposal.

You can view Chamber’s recent submissions to the Government here. The document sets out the evolution of the living wage to date, and its likely evolution to 2025 and beyond.   The submission also sets out our argument for a full impact assessment on the harmonisation.  Following our request, the Treasury published the following reporthowever, Chamber is still concerned that this does not investigate in depth the impact on our businesses.

On page 15 the report states: “Ultimately, the level of this risk in terms of likely business failures is unknown, especially in the context of numerous compounding economic pressures over the past few years including the COVID pandemic and inflationary situation.”

This is what Chamber asked to be modelled, so we have an idea of the likely number of business closures.

(This is a closed answer yes/no survey to make it as quick and easy for members to submit their views, however, there is also opportunity to add open comments and views of which would be well received)

Deadline for completion: Friday 24th November
