DQ Advocates | Leading law firm invotes local students for "invaluable experience" | March 2024

27 March 2024

DQ Advocates, a leading law firm based in Douglas, is excited to announce its running Insight Days, offering local A-level students an unparalleled opportunity to immerse themselves in the dynamic world of law.

The Insight Days initiative aims to provide students from secondary schools across the Isle of Man with firsthand experience of day-to-day life in a bustling legal environment. Participants will have the chance to interact with professionals at all levels of the firm, gaining insights into various facets of legal practice and exploring how their skills and knowledge can be applied in the field.

Activities planned for the Insight Days include partner firm overviews, sessions on the daily life of a trainee and advocacy workshops. Through engaging workshops and presentations, students will have the chance to network with advocates, trainees, and associates, fostering valuable connections and learning how to effectively promote themselves in the legal sphere.

Andrew Harding, Director at DQ Advocates, expressed his enthusiasm for the Insight Days, emphasising their role in providing students with a tangible understanding of what it means to be part of the firm. "The ability to meet advocates and learn about the different work they do, providing a platform to develop certain skills such as analysis and debate without the need to know any law before the day, is invaluable"

He continued, "Whether you've set your heart on law or are still deciding if it's the right path for you, this program should help many students make a decision."

The importance of practical work placements for those considering a legal career is vital, acknowledging the challenges of obtaining relevant experience on the Isle of Man is a great first introduction to the profession. The Insight Days aim to bridge the gap, offering students a unique opportunity to explore their interests and aspirations within a supportive and engaging environment.

Insight Days will be held during the Easter holidays, with up to 10 students from each school invited to participate. Applications are now open and can be found at dq.im/careers. Interested students are encouraged to submit their applications to internships@dq.im by 2nd April.
